Brigadier General Matt Ross

Brigadier General Matt Ross is the Director of Joint Interagency Task Force 401. As Director, he supervises the Department of War’s consolidated effort to rapidly develop and provide counter drone capabilities at scale to enable the department to protect US and allied forces, defend critical infrastructure, and assist federal agencies in securing population centers from unmanned aerial system threats.

He was commissioned as an Infantry officer from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2001. Following the Infantry Officer Basic Course, he was assigned to 2d Battalion, 187 Infantry, 101st Airborne Division where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader and Scout Platoon Leader.

Following his time at the 101st Airborne, he transitioned to 2d Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and served as an Assistant S4, a Ranger Rifle Platoon Leader, a Company Executive Officer, and a Company Commander.

Upon completion of the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course in 2006, Brigadier General Ross was assigned to 1st Brigade 25th Infantry Division (Stryker) which was subsequently reflagged to 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment and moved to Vilseck, Germany. While assigned to 2d Cavalry Regiment, he served as a Brigade Assistant Operations Officer, a Rifle Company Commander, and a Headquarters Company Commander.

Brigadier General Ross then moved to U.S. Army Special Operations Command where he served as a Troop Commander, Operations Officer, Selection and Training Detachment Commander, and Squadron Commander. Following Squadron Command, he was assigned to the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) with follow-on duty at RESOLUTE SUPPORT NATO Headquarters in Bagram, Afghanistan. Brigadier General Ross subsequently served as a Brigade level commander in the Special Operations Community.

Following his time in Special Operations, Brigadier General Ross served as the Executive Officer to the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army, General Randy George and as the Deputy Commanding Officer – Maneuver, for 3d Infantry Division, Rock of the Marne!

Throughout his career Brigadier General Ross has deployed multiple times for combat and contingency operations. Brigadier General Ross has a bachelor’s degree from West Point, a master’s degree from Central Michigan University, and served as a fellow at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.
