Karl Robert Schumann currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Director over the Technical Collections Analysis Readiness Branch in the Operational Technology Division. Prior to this, he served as the Section Chief of the Enterprise Vetting Center.
Previously, he was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge for Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Intel investigative matters at the Norfolk Field Office. He also served as the Intel and Crisis Program Manager and oversaw the ground and aviation surveillance platforms, language services, and the security unit. Prior to serving in Norfolk, he was the Field Supervisor of the Washington Field Office Lookout Program, which is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting on intelligence data to support Counterintelligence, Counterterrorism, and other national security investigations.
Prior to that, he served as a Unit Chief within the Counterintelligence Division (CD) over the Eurasian Section, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) and as a Supervisory Special Agent with the Emerging Threats Section where he worked many high-priority CD investigations. He served a combined 20 years as an Active Duty and Reserve Security Forces Officer in the United States Air Force where he specialized in installation force protection and Department of Defense Anti-Terrorism programs.
He holds a Bachelor’s of Science (B.S.) degree in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Management from Troy State University.
He is a two-time recipient of the FBI Director’s Award and a one-time recipient of the Attorney General’s Award.
