U.S. Hero Who Captured Japan’s WWII Leader Dies at 93

The last surviving member of the group of U.S. soldiers who captured Japanese Prime Minister Gen Hideki Tojo at the end of World War II has died at the age of 93. Tojo went on to face trial for war crimes after his arrest on September 11, 1945. John Wilpers was credited with keeping Tojo alive after he shot himself just before the five-man U.S. team showed up at his house.
