Colonel Matthew C. Getty is Chief of the Policy and International Training and Education Division, Deputy Undersecretary of the Air Force, International Affairs.

 

Colonel Getty, a native of Wayne, New Jersey, entered the Air Force in 1998 as a graduate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He attended undergraduate pilot training at Whiting NAS, FL and earned his wings in 2000 at Vance AFB, OK. During his career Colonel Getty has served as an aircraft commander, instructor pilot, evaluator pilot and functional check flight pilot. He has participated in numerous operations including OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH, NORTHERN WATCH, NOBLE EAGLE, ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM including a tour as the C-37A Detachment Commander in Kabul, Afghanistan.

 

Prior to his current assignment, Colonel Getty was a National Defense Fellow at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. Preceding his fellowship he was the Commander of the 375th Operations Support Squadron where he provided airfield management, air traffic control and system maintenance, aircrew training, aircrew flight equipment, aircraft and aircrew scheduling, weather support, aircrew intelligence, flight records management, aerospace ground equipment support and transient alert support to Scott Air Force Base, MidAmerica Airport and 900 National Guard, Reserve and active duty aircrew members.  Under his direction, the 375 OSS increased Scott AFB’s aircraft operations by 63 percent via a comprehensive support plan which included the establishment of a wing jump program and drop zone, and the first-ever hot-refueling capability at Scott.

 

Colonel Getty is a command pilot, having logged 3,800 hours in the T-34C, T-1A, C-5A, B, C, C-37A, and C-21A aircraft.

 

He is married to his wife Angela of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and they have two children: Sophia and Jake.

The USAF provides aircrew training services to ~1,500 international students annually, accounting for over $200M in foreign funded transactions.  This presentation will provide insight into the scope and scale of this program, and discuss collaboration with foreign partners and industry to meet everyone's flying training needs.
