Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Special Agent (SA) Ben Teed currently serves as the National Technical Lead for the HSI Innovation Lab. With nearly two decades of experience as a law enforcement professional, SA Teed has been consistently recognized for his ability to successfully develop and apply new technologies and analytics to complex criminal investigations, resulting in improved investigative processes and outcomes.
SA Teed began his law enforcement career as a police officer for the Corpus Christi, Texas, Police Department where he specialized in combatting violent criminal gangs, and led the design and development of a gang intelligence computer system, later adopted by numerous Texas-based law enforcement agencies. In 2010, SA Teed joined HSI Corpus Christi, where he co-led a large-scale gang and public corruption investigation and spearheaded the design of a computer system to more efficiently organize and present evidence. In 2014, SA Teed launched HSI Houston’s Operation Hydra, a project dedicated to the development and tactical application of advanced computer-based analytics to more effectively target high priority issues across HSI’s programmatic areas. Operation Hydra has since been recognized by the DHS Deputy Secretary Accommodation and was the recipient of the ICE Director’s Award. SA Teed is actively involved in cultivating public-private partnerships and co-founded HSI’s Money Service Business (MSB) Coalition, which brings together leaders from industry and the government to collaboratively tackle illicit activity occurring through MSBs.
As the Technical Lead of the HSI Innovation Lab, SA Teed oversees a team of data scientists, developers, special agents, and analysts who are creating a suite of analytical tools to support HSI’s special agents and analysts in the field. The HSI Innovation Lab serves as the agency’s centralized hub for the development of new advanced analytics capabilities, tools, and enhanced business processes, and is using human-centered design and cutting-edge technology to further advance HSI’s position as a leader in 21st century federal law enforcement.
