David Greer

Director of Strategic Engagement and Partnerships BC Wildfire Service

David Greer is the Director of Strategic Engagement and Partnerships for the British Columbia Wildfire Service (BCWS). Established in 1912, BCWS is the wildfire suppression service for the Canadian province of British Columbia and is a division of the BC Government’s Ministry of Forests.

David began his wildfire career as a crew member in 1994 with BCWS’ Valhalla Unit Crew. After thirteen fire seasons on the fireline, and following a brief stint as a journalist and writer, he entered the Provincial Government’s communications department. Over the course or 16 years he held several jobs with different ministries and managed diverse portfolios including executive roles with the land management division, Pacific Gateway, and planning divisions with the Ministry of Transportation. He returned “home” to BCWS as a member of its executive team responsible for a portfolio that includes: Organizational Development (training, learning, safety, and mental and physical health and well being), Internal and External Communications, International Relations, and Indigenous Relations. He is the author of the best-selling book, Coming Through Fire, published in 2001.
