Colonel Clinton R. Cody graduated from Texas A&M University and was commissioned into Army Aviation in May 2000. He is a graduate of the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Apache and Apache Longbow Helicopter Qualification Courses, the Air Assault School, the Aviation Captains' Career Course, Naval Command and Staff College with a Master's Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies, and the United States Army War College with a Master's Degree in Strategic Studies. COL Cody is a Master Army Aviator qualified in the OH-58 A/C, AH-6M, AH-64A/D/E.
After flight school, COL Cody served 3 years at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as Attack Platoon Leader in Bravo Company “Blue Max” and later the 3/5 Platoon Leader in 3-101st Aviation Regiment, including deployments in support of OEF 1 and OIF 1. Upon completing the Aviation Captains' Career Course, COL Cody moved back to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served as Assistant Operations Officer and commanded B Company "Bearcats", 1-101st Aviation Regiment. During his time with the Expect No Mercy battalion, he deployed in support of OIF 05-06 and OEF 07-08. After leaving the 101st, COL Cody was next assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), where he served in Bravo Company “Six Guns” as an AH-6M Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, and finally as the Regiment Plans Officer, deploying multiple times to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Following completion of Naval Command and Staff College in 2012, COL Cody served 2 years at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia as the Battalion S3 for 4-3 Assault Helicopter Battalion during OEF 12-13, followed by Brigade S3 for 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade. COL Cody then served on the Army Staff at the Pentagon as the ARSOA Action Officer in the G-3 Special Operations Division.
From 2016-2018, COL Cody commanded 1st Squadron, 6th Air Cavalry Regiment at Fort Riley, Kansas. During his command, he deployed the Squadron to the Republic of Korea for 9 months. After command, COL Cody served as the Senior Aviation Trainer at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California. Following graduation from the Army War College in 2020, COL Cody served on the Joint Staff as the Deputy Division Chief for the J-35 Integrated Operations Division. Prior to assuming duties as the AVCOE Chief of Staff, COL Cody commanded the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
COL Cody's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, five Bronze Star Medals, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, seven Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal with Valor and Numeral 7, two Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge, Master Army Aviator Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. He is also a recipient of the Order of St. Michael (Silver) and the Order of St. George (Silver),
COL Cody and his wife, Kim, an Army veteran, have two sons, Connor (13) and Dillon (10).
