Lt. Col. Justin Stein

Assistant Head Flying Training, UK Military Flying Training System Army Headquarters

Colonel Justin Stein was born and raised in Edinburgh. He graduated from University in Aberdeen with First Class Honours in Politics and Management. He commissioned into the Army Air Corps in 1996 and gained Army Flying Wings in 1998.

During his career he has served in flying appointments at all major British Army Aviation Units in both the UK and Central Europe - flying front-line helicopters and fixed wing multi-engine aircraft.

At staff, he served with the USMC 3rd Marine Air Wing (3 MAW), the NATO Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC), Land Warfare Centre (LWC), Joint Aviation Command (JAC), 22 Gp RAF, Army Personnel Centre (APC) and Army HQ.

He has deployed on five operational tours, a blend of command and staff, with multiple airborne missions in the Intelligence Surveillance Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) role.

On promotion to LTC he was appointed Deputy Commander of the UK Attack Helicopter Force, including full Command of the AH64 Operational Conversion Unit (OCU). This was followed by two tours in Army HQ working in capability roles in Force Development, Design, Programmes, Mission System Integration and Industrial Engagement Strategy.

On promotion to COL in July 23, he was appointed Assistant Head Flying Training - the User Lead for UK military helicopter, multi-engine and fast-jet training portfolios.

He is also a Cranfield University Business Alumni; graduate of the Project Leadership Programme (PLP); and a Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) with experience in Defence programmes and reform.
