Mohammed A. Zikry is the Zan Prevost Smith Professor at N.C. State University in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. His research expertise is in the general areas of multiscale modeling, mechanics of materials, fracture and defect mechanics, extreme materials, and crystalline plasticity. He has received the Jefferson Science Fellowship (as an advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State), the Senior Research Fulbright Award, the RJ Reynolds Award (NCSU), the ALCOA Distinguished Research Award, and the Ralph Teetor Research Award from the Society of Automotive Engineering. He has also been awarded a Professeur, Premiere Classe, Strasbourg University, and he has been a Senior Advisor to the Army Research Office. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Society of Engineering Science (SES), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME). He also has received distinguished alumni awards from the University of California, San Diego, and the University of Kansas. He was also awarded the Robert Thurston Lecture Society Award, which is one of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering’s (ASME’s) major society awards in recognition of his research accomplishments. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, his M.S. from the Johns Hopkins University, and his B.S. from the University of Kansas.
