Dr. Kareem Ahmed is a Trustee Chair Professor at the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at University of Central Florida, the Director of the UCF Hypersonics and Space Center of Excellence (HYPERSPACE) and a faculty of the Center for Advanced Turbomachinery & Energy Research. Before joining UCF, he was a faculty at Old Dominion University, Florida State University, and Senior Aero/Thermo Engineer at Pratt & Whitney Military Engines. At UCF, he is leading a world-class research portfolio in hypersonic and space propulsion, and energy focusing on hypersonic and supersonic turbulent reacting flows, deflagrations and detonations, high-speed compressible turbulent reacting flows, and advanced laser optical diagnostics. The research has a broad impact in terms of national priority and an international focus for hypersonics, space propulsion, power generation engines, propulsion jet engines, fire safety, and extends to supernova science. He is a DON Distinguished Faculty Fellow and received multiple awards, including the ACS-DNI, CI Distinguished Paper, Dean’s Professor, NAE US FOE, Fellow of The Combustion Institute, AIAA Associate Fellow, and AFOSR and ONR Fellow.
