Colonel Bryan Fanning

COL Bryan Fanning earned a commission in the United States Army upon graduation from the University of North Georgia in 2003. Following the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, he served in Baumholder, Germany with the 1st Armored Division as a Company Fire Support Officer, Platoon Leader, and Executive Officer, including a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

COL Fanning attended the Field Artillery Captains Career Course in 2007 and subsequently deployed to Afghanistan as part of a Provincial Reconstruction Team. He then served in 4th Brigade Combat Team (Currahee), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) as the Brigade Assistant S-3 and Firing Battery Commander, including a deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Following battery command, COL Fanning earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Georgia.

After graduating from the Command and General Staff Officer Course and the School of Advanced Military Studies, COL Fanning served at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii in the 25th Infantry Division as a Future Operations Planner, Battalion Executive Officer, Brigade Executive Officer, and Division Deputy Chief of Staff. He then completed a joint tour at the U.S. Central Command headquarters in Tampa, Florida, as the Deputy Branch Chief in the J-35 Iran Branch.

COL Fanning commanded 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment in the 101st Airborne Division from June 2021 to May 2023, including a deployment in support of Operation EUROPEAN ASSURE, DETER, REINFORCE. Following command, he attended the Advanced Strategic Leaders Studies Program at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, then served as the FA Human Resources Manager in the Colonels Management Office (COMO) at Fort Knox, KY.

COL Fanning has been married to the former Cristin Smith of Greensboro, Georgia for 23 years. They are the proud parents of Marlie, a rising sophomore at the University of Georgia, and Emma, a rising 9th grader at Leilehua High School.
