Dr. Nicholas T. Martin is the Director of the Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA), providing engineering expertise to address Department of Defense (DoD) microelectronics challenges impacting the Warfighter. He directly supports Service Program Managers, Depots, Combatant Commands, and the Intelligence Community. As DMEA Director, he is the primary advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment (ASD(S)) on the implications of emerging microelectronics technologies for defense capabilities.
Dr. Martin oversees DMEA initiatives to expand the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) through partnerships and collaborations, and manages DMEA's strategic direction, including its unique DoD-owned semiconductor fabrication facility, the Trusted Access Program Office (TAPO), and rapid acquisition efforts through the Advanced Technology Support Program Office (ATSP). He assumed this role in August 2021.
Prior to DMEA, Dr. Martin served in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician, including two deployments aboard the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74). He also served as an adjunct professor at California State University, Sacramento, in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Dr. Martin holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from California State University, Sacramento, and a Doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Davis, earned as a DoD SMART Scholar. He is a Level III certified Defense Acquisition Professional in Systems, Research, Development, and Engineering (SPRDE) and a recipient of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Exceptional Service Award.
