Captain Corey Odom is a native of Camden County, New Jersey and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion University. In addition, Corey attended Johns Hopkins University where he earned a Master of Science degree and the Naval War College where he earned a Master of Arts degree. Corey enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1990, served ten years in the submarine community completing sea tours onboard USS L. MENDEL RIVERS (SSN-686) and USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN-699). In 1999 he was accepted into the Navy’s Enlisted Commissioning Program and earned his commission in 2002.
After commissioning, Corey’s operational assignments include command of USS GLADIATOR (MCM 13), Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer in USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79); Auxiliaries Officer in USS LABOON (DDG 58) and Strike Officer in USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66). He also served as the Executive Officer of USS GRAVELY (DDG 107) prior to assuming command of GRAVELY on November 13, 2020.
Captain Odom’s shore assignments include tours as Naval Science Instructor at the United States Naval Academy, Operational Test Director at Commander Operational Test and Evaluation Force, Deputy Branch head in the N7 training code at US Fleet Forces Command. He recently served as VADM Brendan McLane’s Executive Assistant on SURFLANT and SURFPAC staffs. Corey is currently assigned as the Logistics and Sustainment Branch Head on the Supreme Allied Command Transformational staff in Norfolk, Virginia.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Naval Achievement Medal (five awards) and various unit and expeditionary awards.
