Dr. Shiv Rao MD

Dr. Shiv Rao is the CEO and Co-Founder of Abridge, the leading AI platform for healthcare. Under his leadership, Abridge is projected to support more than 100 million patient-clinician encounters in 2026 across 250 of the largest and most complex health systems in the U.S. The company is developing real-time bridges between patients, providers, and payers.

A practicing cardiologist turned entrepreneur, Dr. Rao brings a combination of clinical rigor, enterprise-scale leadership, and AI product innovation to the transformation of healthcare delivery. He was named one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People in AI and has been recognized on Modern Healthcare's 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare list for two consecutive years. He also appears on the Forbes 250 America's Greatest Innovators list.

Dr. Rao continues to practice cardiology at UPMC, grounding his work at Abridge in the realities of clinical care. He previously led UPMC's provider-facing investment portfolio, backing early-stage healthcare startups and helping fund a Machine Learning in Health program at Carnegie Mellon University.

Dr. Rao completed his medical education and training at the University of Michigan and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He also studied at Carnegie Mellon University, where he programmed virtual synthesizers and skateboarded in IMAX movies.
