Dr. Aaron J. Drew is the Senior Enterprise Solutions Architect in the Office of Information & Technology (OI&T), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Drew is concurrently serving as the Technical Director for the Supply Chain Product Line (Health) within the Office of Information & Technology. Previously, Dr. Drew simultaneously served as the Chief Engineer & Chief Architect for the Financial Management Business Transformation Special Program Office (FMBT-SPO) and the Chief Engineer & Chief Architect for the Supply Chain Modernization Program. Prior to joining the SCM Product Line and the FMBT Program, Dr. Drew served multiple roles in support of the Chief Information Officer and the Secretary of the VA. As a Senior IT Advisor, Dr. Drew previously supported three of the SECVA’s 12 Breakthrough Priorities (Reducing Veterans Homelessness, Increase Access to Healthcare, and Improve Community Care). Dr. Drew also supported the CIO’s Enterprise Cyber Security Team as the Program Manager for the Security Architecture, Engineering & Design Domain (SAED) Team. Finally, Dr. Drew also served as the Chief Engineer and Technical Product Manager for the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) Evolution Program. As Chief Engineer and Technical Product Manager, Dr. Drew was responsible for designing a robust, scalable, open, and interoperable technical architecture and infrastructure that will both support and enable VistA 4’s clinical functional capabilities. These capabilities would allow the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to meet the modern and future needs of our clinicians and external medical stakeholders who have a vested interested in accessing the Veteran’s electronic medical record information as part of a coordinated care endeavor. As the Director, Health IT Product Engineering for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Drew was responsible for the Multi-Year Fiscal Budget Management, Budget Operation Planning, Budget Execution Year Monitoring, Program Management and the Product Management (which includes Concept Refinement, Requirements Gathering, Requirements Analysis, and System Design) for all Health Information Systems. These information systems support the mission of the Veterans Health Administration (to include their interoperability with the Department of Defense, Health and Human Services and the Department of the Interior). Dr. Drew was also responsible for the upstream customer service relationship building between the Veterans Health Administration and my Office (Product & Platform Management: Health) as well as his downstream customers: the VA’s Office of Information & Technology/Product Development and the White House’s Digital Services Team. During his tenure as the Director of Enterprise Architecture, Dr. Drew was responsible for standing up a useful, business-driven, and data-centric Enterprise Architecture for the entire U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (OneVA Enterprise Architecture). Dr. Drew pushed the development of the Consolidated Reference Models (BRM, PRM, DRM, SRM, and TRM), to include the provisioning of the Doman Architecture artifacts such as the Business Architecture, Data Architecture, Applications Architecture, Infrastructure Architecture, Security Architecture, and the Strategy Architecture. Internally to VA, Dr. Drew currently serves as the Co-Chair for the Architecture & Engineering Review Board. As a representative of VA in the joint Department of Defense (DoD)/VA environment, Dr. Drew has served as the Co-Chair for the Health Architecture Review Board. Finally, Dr. Drew is committed to bringing better coordination/collaboration among the VHA, VBA and NCA Segment Architectures in addition to the Solutions Architectures underlying VA Major Initiatives. This internal coordination is done in conjunction with his work to better sync the Health architecture and infrastructure initiatives between VA and DoD. Dr. Drew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Social Psychology from the University of Delaware, Masters’ degrees in Human Resources Management and Management Information System from Marymount University and finally a Doctorate degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Maryland University College. Dr. Drew is concurrently serving as an Adjunct Associate Professor with the University of Maryland University College in their Graduate School of Management & Technology and New York University in their Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Dr. Drew also periodically guest lectures at George Mason University in their Graduate School of Policy, Government, and International Affairs. Dr. Drew previously served as an Adjunct Professor with Marymount University in their Graduate School of Business Administration.
