A. Redfield is currently working on the DARPA Robotic Servicing
of Geostationary Satellites (RSGS) project as the Payload Mission Manager
Lead. Prior to joining NRL in 2014, she was an engineer at the Naval
Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division in Panama City, Florida,
supporting autonomous robotics projects and providing expertise gained
during a three-year tour as the Associate Director for Autonomy and
Unmanned Systems at the U.S. Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG) in
London. At ONRG London, Dr. Redfield worked with researchers from a
wide range of disciplines. As a result of her term with ONRG, she is
currently participating in a NATO Research Task Group focused on
autonomy in limited-communications environments. She is a
member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) and is part of
the working group that developed the first IEEE RAS standard, covering
core ontologies for robotics and automation.
Before joining ONRG London, Dr. Redfield managed a program that sea tested
a team consisting of autonomous underwater vehicles, surface vehicles, and
simulated vehicles as they performed a variety of search and
reacquisition tasks at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City
Division. She also led the development of a new architecture, enabling
the simulation and testing of a variety of arbitration mechanisms to
control teams of vehicles, leveraging her extensive experience with teams
of autonomous vehicles, including development and simulation of
behaviors for ground vehicles, autonomous survey patterns for underwater
gliders with three dimensional motion simulations, and path
planning behaviors for a variety of missions. Her background
includes biologically-inspired image processing for robot sensors. She
received her B.A. in General Engineering with concentrations in Electrical
Engineering and Music from Johns Hopkins University in 1993, and both
her M.S. (1998) and her Ph.D. (2001) in Electrical and Computer
Engineering from the University of Florida.
