Chief Carlos Naranjo

As the Chief of Safety & Security for PortMiami, Carlos "Charlie" Naranjo is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the Port's Facility Security Plan (FSP) are fully implemented in accordance with all regulatory obligations and that all port users remain safe and secure.  Furthermore, he provides FSP oversight and assistance for the Port's tenants and works closely with law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to effect secure operations.

Before joining the PortMiami team in early 2020, Chief Naranjo served with the Miami-Dade Police Department (now the Miami Dade Sheriff's Office) for 29 years.  During his tenure in law enforcement, he ascended the ranks in a variety of roles covering all aspects of the job ranging from uniform operations to criminal investigations and tactical response.  In his role as Commander of the South Miami Dade Neighborhood Policing Unit, Chief Naranjo was responsible for addressing all law enforcement-related quality of life concerns for a community of more than half a million people in a geographic area comprising roughly half the size of Miami-Dade County.  After retiring from law enforcement, he moved into new roles as an entrepreneur and executive leadership in private security operations with the nation's largest retail property owner, until ultimately returning to public service in his current position.  Throughout his over 40 years in law enforcement and security operations, Chief Naranjo has always driven innovative approaches to effect positive impacts in policing and security.

Chief Naranjo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Leadership from Saint Thomas University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Management from the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business at Nova Southeastern University, but he considers his greatest achievements to be his marriage of over 37 years and his 4 children and 8 grandchildren.
