Tim Saffold serves as Vice President of the Autonomous and Unmanned Systems at Amentum. In this role, Tim leads the company's efforts in government and commercial Autonomous and Unmanned Systems. He is responsible for a significant portfolio of contracts employing nearly 1000 personnel delivering a wide range of technical skills in five different countries. Tim is also central to developing growth strategies for expanding Amentum unmanned systems and counter unmanned systems business.
Tim leads teams of experts supporting clients with modernization of platforms, engineering, integration & solutioning, and RDT&E requirements in areas of commercial and government Unmanned Systems. These include Command & Control, Maintenance, Training, Engineering Support Services, Interoperability-Studies and Analysis, Operations, Data Management and Analysis, and Counter UAS. Tim's award-winning teams have planned and executed Unmanned Systems projects for oil & gas, mining, transportation, and government clients globally. His leadership has directly contributed to Amentum's position as a leading expert in UAS command and control requiring reliability ratings nearing 100 percent. He spearheaded Amentum's highly disciplined approach to UAS employment outside DOD agencies and enjoyed great success supporting multiple clients including Chevron, ExxonMobil, and the Tennessee Valley Authority along with many others.
Tim has chaired corporate level forums such as the UAS Working Group (UASWG), a collaborative forum of experts from operations, GIS and data, safety, legal, and insurance who oversee and implement policy for UAS operations around the world. He currently chairs the Executive Mosaic 4x24 Multi-Domain Leadership Forum that meets several times per year in the Washington DC area.
Mr. Saffold joined Amentum (then URS) in 2008 after a distinguished 31-year career in the United States Air Force where he held numerous leadership and staff positions to include senior JFACC Pacific theater strategist. Tim commanded at multiple levels, earned Command Pilot and Master Parachutist ratings, and served three combat tours flying the A-10.
Tim has a B.S. in International Relations from the US Air Force Academy, a M.S. in Business Management from Troy State University, a M.A. in International & Strategic Studies from the US Army War College, and a M.B.A. from Denver University along with advanced aviation and leadership courses from the USAF.
