CUAS Lead Defense Innovation Unit

Matt is a program manager with over 10 years experience in rapid-prototyping that joined Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) in April 2020 . As the program lead for counter unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS), he is responsible for technology development to detect, track, identify and defeat small UAS. His programs currently focus on interceptor technology and family of systems integration. Prior to his current position, he served the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) as a Division Chief and lead Program Manager where, among other supervisory responsibilities, he served as the Project Branch Lead in support of deployed U.S. Special Operations Forces for technologies to attack enemy networks that utilize improvised explosive devices. Previous non-command assignments include service at the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) as a Program Manager for technologies to neutralize and defeat improvised explosive devices including robotics and unmanned systems. In addition to his civilian career, Matt has served as a U.S. Army logistics officer both on active duty and in the national guard. While on active duty he completed three tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. Matt holds a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, and a Bachelor of Science in Maritime Operations and Technology from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
