Mr. Daniel (Dan) Ermer currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Prototyping and Experimentation within the Office of Assistant Secretary of War for Mission Capabilities, under the Office of Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering. Over the last fourteen years, Mr. Ermer has served in multiple director capacities to provide technical leadership, management oversight, policy guidance, and coordination to the Department of War on the employment of advance prototypes and joint experiments to address Combatant Command and Joint Service urgent and emergent warfighting needs.
Mr. Ermer had an extensive 30-year career in the Marine Corps where he was assigned to many diverse command, staff, special-duty, and joint billets in the occupational fields of combat engineering, logistics, and rapid acquisitions. The highlights of his combat experience consist of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Silent Assurance, Operation Resolute Response, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He served as Commanding Officer for Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow, CA, enabling the maintenance of military weapon systems, sub-systems, and support facilities to sustain critical sectors of the U.S. defense industrial base. He commanded Marine Wing Support Squadron-373 in Miramar, CA, and he led over 800 Marines as they provided aviation ground support to 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing during Operation Iraqi Freedom in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Finally, he deployed as the Force Engineer Officer for II-Marine Expeditionary Force Forward, where he directed the execution of 334 construction projects over a thirteen-month span in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.
Mr. Ermer holds a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy from National Defense University Eisenhower School (formerly Industrial College of the Armed Forces), Washington, DC; a Master of Arts degree in Human Resources Development from Webster University, St. Louis, MO; and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business from Iowa State University, Ames, IA.
