As Assistant Chief of Police for the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Josh Cousins is currently responsible for the Special Operations Division. These responsibilities include overseeing the department's Bomb Squad, Canine teams, SWAT, Traffic Enforcement, Drone Operations, Hostage Negotiations, Real Time Crime Center, Police Training, and Police Recruiting. Josh has been with DFW Airport since 2010.
Josh enlisted in the U.S. Army as an M1A1 Abrams tank crewman in 2000. He was deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004 to 2005, where he was attached to a U.S. Navy EOD Team as security team leader. Josh was also assigned as Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of a Joint Operation Center responsible for security and logistics for central Iraq. Josh is a graduate of Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and holds a Master of Arts degree in national security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School's Center for Homeland Defense and Security. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Public Administration at Valdosta State University, GA.
Josh is a Certified Member of the American Association of Airport Executives. He has partnered with many leaders at several other airport police and security agencies, including the Israel Airports Authority in Tel Aviv, the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority in Washington D.C., and the New York/ New Jersey Port Authority, to adapt and model improved security and law enforcement initiatives for policing major metropolitan airports.
