Commander Spanish Army Air Defence Command

Brigadier General Enrique Silvela commands the Spanish Army Air Defence Artillery Brigade in Madrid.

Promoted Artillery lieutenant in 1989, he spent his junior officer years in Artillery regiments, having commanded Air Defence Artillery units as lieutenant and captain. As a full colonel he assumed command of the 73rd Air Defence Artillery Regiment.

BG Silvela has received the Spanish as well as the United States Army Command and General Staff diplomas, serving mostly in defence policy and international relations staffs.

He has deployed to Bosnia i Hercegovina, Afghanistan and the Lebanon.

BG Silvela holds a PhD in Sociology and a Master in Military Art and Science from the US Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC).

He has authored a number of publications, having received the McArthur Leadership Writing Award from the CGSC, and the Spanish Army Review Award.
