Michael joined Cypress International in May 2019 principally supporting client interests across the ground combat, tactical wheeled vehicle, and sustainment systems areas. He brings more than 20 years of national security enterprise experience, both as a civil servant and in uniform serving at tactical, operational, and strategic levels in the active component and Air National Guard. His career includes tactical military operations; strategic policy development; operational & strategic intelligence analysis; corporate and media communications; organizational strategy; Congressional affairs and budget analysis; and major ground system acquisition.
EXPERIENCE
Prior to joining the defense industry, Michael served as the Assistant Program Executive Officer (Communication) for the U.S. Army Program Executive Office, Combat Support & Combat Service Support at the Detroit Arsenal, Mich. In this capacity he managed all media, legislative, industry, other external, and internal communications for the PEO’s portfolio of more than 100 active programs with an annual budget exceeding $3 billion. He previously served at United States Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. as Deputy Director of the Commander’s Action Group, Chief of Senior Leader Engagement, and Senior Legislative Policy Analyst.
Michael also continues an active military career, serving at the rank of Colonel in the Michigan Air National Guard (reserve of the U.S. Air Force) and with responsibility as Commander, 217th Air Operations Group. In this role he leads four squadrons of Airmen comprising over 80 specialties in staff planning and operational execution of air, space, and cyber operations via the Air Operations Center AN/USQ-163 Falconer weapon system—primarily in support of U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Africa. His career includes significant time in both active duty and reserve capacities; numerous service and joint assignments at tactical, operational, and strategic levels; and three contingency deployments to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.
Michael earned a B.A. magna cum laude from Albion College in Albion, Mich. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa academic honorary and earned certificates from the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Service at Albion College and the Focus on the Family Institute in Colorado Springs, CO. His military education includes U.S. Air Force Squadron Officers School, Air Command & Staff College, and Air War College.
