Persistent surveillance will become mandatory in the future in order to meet the requireents of the asymmetric threat. Long Endurance platforms such as lighter than air multi sensor platforms that can stay aloft for many months will be required. The sensor technology is feasible with long range Video, Thermal, Hyperspectral cameras and high resolution MTI/SAR radars. However the platform and power sources required to support these types of sensors for extended periods are far from being a reality.
