Admiral Eric Olson, CDR USSOCOM, to present keynote address at Irregular Warfare Summit

New York, NY – May 12, 2010– The Institute for Defense and Government Advancement (IDGA) is pleased to announce that ADM Eric Olson, CDR USSOCOM,will be a Keynote Speaker at the Irregular Warfare Summit, scheduled for May 24-26, 2010, at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, VA.

ADM Olson, who has written about Irregular Warfare, will be presenting his keynote on Special Operations Command Contribution And Coordinated Activities In Support Of Irregular Warfare Activities, specifically discussing coordinating the development of aspects of special operations forces (SOF) doctrine relevant to IW and leading the development of SOF IW-relevant training and education standards for individuals and units.

DoD Directive 3000.07, released in December 2008, places the mission of irregular warfare on an equal footing with conventional warfare in future military planning.

Irregular Warfare objectives are to provide a continuum of strategies, tools, and capabilities for dealing with tomorrow’s complex and increasingly asymmetrical challenges to US military and geo-political interests, including new approaches for dealing with counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, and the stabilization and reconstruction / rehabilitation of adversary states and entities.

IDGA’s Irregular Warfare Summit will provide attendees with the policies, doctrine, training requirements, and necessary capabilities needed to fight irregular warfare, emphasizing the topics ofCounterinsurgency (COIN), unconventional warfare (UW), foreign internal defense (FID), and civil-military operations (CMO).
