The U.S. has deployed 100 troops to Niger to help French forces in troubled, neighboring country Mali. President Barack Obama told Congress on Friday that the troops will be fully armed but will be chiefly involved in providing intelligence support. French troops have been engaged in a battle with al Qaeda-affiliated extremists in Mali since January.
