Dr. Mike Kweon currently serves as the Program Manager for the Versatile Tactical Power and Propulsion Essential Research Program at the DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory (ARL), located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. In this capacity, he is responsible for directing and overseeing one of ARL’s flagship corporate research programs in energy, power, and propulsion technologies. He established the Center for UAS Propulsion (CUP) in 2018.
Since joining ARL in 2010, Dr. Kweon has held several key leadership and technical positions, including Propulsion Division Chief, Engines Team Lead, and Mechanical Engineer within the Vehicle Technology Directorate. Prior to his tenure at ARL, he held research and engineering roles at Delphi Advanced Powertrain (Auburn Hills, MI), GM Powertrain (Pontiac, MI), GM R&D (Warren, MI), and the Gas Technology Institute (Des Plaines, IL).
Dr. Kweon earned both his doctoral and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program (HBS AMP) and the APG Cohort 9 Senior Leadership Program. He has co-authored more than 250 journal articles, conference papers, and internal technical reports, and is a co-inventor on over 30 patents and trade secrets. He is a Fellow of the Combustion Institute. Dr. Kweon has received numerous honors, including five ARL Honorary Awards recognizing excellence in leadership, partnering, analysis, and laboratory operations, as well as five Department of the Army Civilian Service Commendation Medals.
