MASTER SERGEANT WILLIAM A. SMITH MSgt William Smith is a Superintendent at the Unmanned Systems Detachment, 720th Special Tactics Group, Hurlburt Field, Florida. In his current role, MSgt Smith is at the forefront of Unmanned Systems (UxS) advancement within Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). He leads efforts to develop and deliver cutting-edge UxS training, ensuring that Special Operations Forces (SOF) and Department of Defense (DoD) personnel are equipped with the skills necessary for mission success.
MSgt Smith grew up in Texas and entered the Air Force in May 2008. He completed Weather Forecaster Apprentice Course in April 2009 and later completed the Special Operations Weather Technician pipeline in November 2011 which later transitioned to Special Reconnaissance in 2018. MSgt Smith has served at multiple Special Tactics Squadrons, and his assignments include bases in Germany, Florida, Washington, Texas, and the United Kingdom. He has deployed multiple times in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, operations in Africa and Europe in support of various Special Operations Units.
Prior to this assignment, MSgt Smith served at the 321st Special Tactics Squadron, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, United Kingdom, where he provided leadership for the squadron's Special Reconnaissance programs. These programs employed global access, precision strike, personnel recovery, and special operations air/land integration capabilities.
