Lieutenant Colonel Dylan Montambo

LtCol Montambo was born in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Old Dominion University and commissioned in the Marine Corps in 2010. After completion of The Basic School, he reported to Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 for Naval Flight Training. Following being winged as a Naval Aviator in 2013, he reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 (HMLAT-303), MCAS Camp Pendleton, CA for UH-1Y Huey training.

LtCol Montambo completed UH-1Y Huey training in 2014 and reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269 (HMLA-269) in Jacksonville, NC where he served in various assignments including Airframes Officer-in-Charge (OIC). In 2015, he deployed with the squadron in support of a Unit Deployment Program (UDP) to Okinawa, Japan where he supported multiple exercises across the Indo-Pacific.

In 2017, he graduated from Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) School at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT) and checked into 2D Tank Battalion as the Air Officer where he supported multiple Joint and unit level exercises. In 2018, he deployed with 2D Battalion, 8th Marines as their Air Officer in support of a UDP to Okinawa, Japan. In August 2018, LtCol Montambo checked back into HMLA-269 serving as the UH-1Y Tactics and Standardization Officer.

In July of 2019, LtCol Montambo reported to Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA. He graduated from EWS in May 2020. He subsequently reported to Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group (TTECG) in Twentynine Palms, CA as the lead Air Officer and Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Instructor. In October 2020, he graduated from Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course.

Following his selection in the Fiscal Year 2022 Transition Conversion Board, LtCol Montambo checked into the 160th Attack Squadron for MQ-9A Initial Qualification Training (IQT). Following IQT graduation in November of 2022, LtCol Montambo reported to Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3 (VMU-3). While at VMU-3, he filled Director of Safety and Standardization and Executive Officer. He balanced duties of Executive Officer and Lead Instructor Pilot during a robust time of transition that saw the squadron become the first permanently based MQ-9A squadron in the Indo-Pacific Theater.
