Colonel Timothy (Tim) R. Jaeger hails from South Holland, Illinois. Colonel Jaeger began his Army career a Combat Medic in 1992. In 1998, he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Illinois State University and received his Commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Aviation Branch.

Colonel Jaeger's first assignment was with the 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, the Divisional Attack Aviation Battalion of the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. He served as a Company Scout and Attack Apache Longbow Platoon Leader and Support Platoon Leader.

Upon completion of the Aviation Captain's Career Course, Colonel Jaeger served as an Assistant Operations Officer in 11th Aviation Regiment, Illesheim, Germany. In 2003 he deployed to OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM in Balad, Iraq. Shortly after redeployment he became the Squadron Logistics Officer for 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry, Illesheim, Germany. Colonel Jaeger assumed command of Alpha Company, 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry and later commanded HHT, 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry.

After relinquishing command, Colonel Jaeger was assigned to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC), Fort Polk, Louisiana as a Company Observer Controller/Trainer Mentor. During his tour at JRTC, Colonel Jaeger earned his Master of Science from American Military University.

After departing Fort Polk, Colonel Jaeger was assigned as a Team Leader for a Military Transition Team. He deployed his team to Northern Iraq and later relocated his team to Southern Iraq, where he was stationed at an Iraqi Police Station in Nasiriyah.

After completing ILE at FLKS, COL Jaeger was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia where he served as the Executive Officer. He later served as the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade Executive Officer and deployed to Kandahar Airfield in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.

After departing the 3rd Infantry Division, he was assigned to the Office of the Chief of Staff, Army where he served as a Protocol Officer and later the Assistant Executive Officer/Aide to the Director of the Army Staff. He was later assigned to the Office of the Chief, Legislative Liaison with responsibilities for the Operations portfolio in OCLLs Programs Division.

In November of 2016 Colonel Jaeger assumed command of the 4th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion (4-4 ARB), 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, and relinquished command in May of 2019. During his tenure in command, he deployed his battalion to OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE.

Following Battalion Command, Colonel Jaeger served as the Senior Aviation Trainer for the Eagle Team, Operations Group, National Training Center from May 2019 through June 2020. In 2021, Colonel Jaeger earned a Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College. After departing the National Training Center, COL Jaeger was assigned to JSOTF-SOM as the Director of the Military Assistant Group – Somalia where he deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia.

Colonel Jaeger is a graduate of the Aviation Officer Basic Course, Aviation Captain's Career Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Joint Firepower Course, the Command and General Staff College, and the US Army War College. Colonel Jaeger most recently served as the commander of the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, First Cavalry Division from July 2022 to June 2024, and the Chief of Staff for the 1st Cavalry Division until July 2025. He is now the Director of Army Aviation, HQDA G-3/5/7 (DAMO-AV).

Colonel Jaeger is married to the former Melissa Woodard of Ringgold, Louisiana and they have five children: Aubrey - 29, Shelby - 27, Zachary - 22, Anthony - 21 and Gunner - 7.
