Major General Michael Hochwart

Commander, Army Training Command in Leipzig Bundeswehr

Major General Hochwart joined the Army in 1979. After completing his studies in economics in 1985 he became Platoon Leader in the Special Weapons Supply Battalion 320 in Herborn. After further postings including a time as a Company Commander Major General Hochwart successfully passed the 36th Army General Staff Officer Course in 1995, which was followed by the US Army Command an General Staff Course in 1998. He ran many logistic posts like G4 of a Brigade and a Division and became Battalion Commander of the Supply Battalion 7 in Unna just as Commander of the School of Land Systems Engineering in Aachen, where he was promoted to the rank of a general in 2013. He was director of the Logistics and Support as well as director of Operations, Military Intelligence and Training in the German Army Headquarters in Strausberg until 2021, before he was posted to his current position as Commander German Army Training Command in Leipzig. Major General Hochwart was deployed to Kosovo in 2000 as the Chief of Staff of the Logistic Regiment as well as to Feyzabad in Afghanistan as the Commander PRT in 2008. Furthermore, he finished is studies at the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth and was posted there as a Lecture afterwards from 2008 to 2010. Major General Hochwart is married to Sylvia. They have five children, from which the youngest has become twenty years in 2023.
