Danny Burns

Chief Technology Officer Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-6 US Army

Chief Warrant Officer Five (CW5) Danny Burns enlisted in the US Army in 1995 as a Mobile System Equipment Operator (31F), attending Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC. In 2001, he received appointment as a Network Management Technician Warrant Officer (250N), Signal Branch. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management and a Master of Business Administration in Sports Management, and is a distinguished graduate of the Warrant Officer Senior Service Education Course and the United States Army War College Senior Leader Seminar.

During his 27 years of active military service, CW5 Burns has served in a number of diverse assignments, including peacekeeping missions to Bosnia in support of NATO during Operation Joint Endeavor (1996) and Operation Joint Guard (1997), and combat operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom I (2003) & III (2005) - supporting 3rd Armored Calvary and 4th Infantry Division, respectively.

CW5 Burns’ assignments include: Network Management Technician, HHC, 16th Signal Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas; Information Technology Security Designer, Bravo Company, 742nd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Meade, Maryland; Senior Information Assurance Security Designer, Bravo Company, 741st Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Meade, Maryland; Presidential Communications Officer (PCO), Current Operations Division (COD), White House Communications Agency (WHCA), Washington, DC; Presidential Response Officer, COD, WHCA; PCO Program Manager, J3 Plans and Policy, WHCA; Command Chief Warrant Officer, WHCA; Senior Technical Advisor, WHCA; Senior Technical Advisor to the Director, Joint Staff, J6, Washington, DC; and he is currently the Chief Technology Officer, HQDA, Deputy Chief of Staff G-6, Washington, DC.

CW5 Burns’ awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal (1 OLC), Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Presidential Service Badge, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge. He is a recipient of the Bronze Order of Mercury from the Signal Regimental Corps and Department of the Army CIO/G-6. Mr. Burns is also a distinguished member of the White House Communications Agency’s Hall of Fame (2017).
