13:00 - 13:30 Morning Networking Break & Meetings

13:30 - 14:00 Overview of and Guidance Related to Modern DE Intermediate Force Capabilities in Development and/or Fielded through the DoD Non-Lethal Weapons Program to Enable the Joint Force to Successfully Compete across the Competition Continuum

Colonel Wendell B. Leimbach, USMC - Director, Department of Defense Joint Intermediate Force Capabilities Office, Department of Defense Non-Lethal Weapons Program

The Dept. of Defense Joint Intermediate Force Capabilities Office (JIFCO) recognizes that non-lethal directed energy weapons are key to addressing the Joint Force’s needs. The JIFCO, located at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., develops Intermediate Force Capabilities (IFCs) between presence and lethal effects in support of the Joint Force. The office provides programmatic recommendations and facilitates joint non-lethal weapons procurement by ensuring that funding supports the development of highly relevant next-generation IFCs.

DE-STAR or Directed Energy System for Targeting of Asteroids and Exploration (DE-STAR) is a proposed system to deflect asteroids, comets, and other near-Earth objects that pose a credible risk of impact. With massive applications across the DoD ecosystem, this program is poised to draw interest due to the ongoing conversations about potentially leveraging DE in space as a means to meet next-gen missile threats.
