Thomas W. Russell

Director NEXLOG, United States Marine Corps

Thomas Russell is a retired senior leader from the Marine Corps and a 33 year professional logistician. Upon graduation from the Virginia Military Institute in 1986 he was commissioned a 2ndLt in the Marine Corps and served as a ground logistician for the almost 25 years.  During that time he attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey where he earned a Master of Science in Systems Engineering and subsequently worked as a resource programming officer and financial manager with at Headquarters Marine Corps, Programs and Resources.  He later served as the lead resource allocation officer for Headquarters Marine Corps, Installations and Logistics. His final assignment in uniform was as a member of the professional acquisition corps and the Chief of Staff with the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Research Development & Acquisition (ASN (RDA)) where he managed a portfolio of large ground acquisition programs in support of the Department of the Navy.  Upon retiring, Mr. Russell established a consulting company called Wellington Federal, LLC that he successfully ran for eight years that centered on providing thought leadership and concept development within the military logistics modernization arena and directly supported efforts to achieve individual item tracking of equipment, Seabasing modernization and military application of Additive Manufacturing. He began his current assignment as the Director of Innovation for the Marine Corps Next Generation Logistics (NEXLOG) office in June of 2018 and has focused his energy towards assuring sustainment of Next Generation force.
