Rosario Vasquez

Rosario "Pete" Vasquez was selected as the Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) in June 2026. Prior to this position, he served as the Chief Patrol Agent of Blaine Sector.

Chief Vasquez entered on duty on April 9, 2000, with the 432nd session of the U.S. Border Patrol Academy. His first assignment was the Yuma Station, Yuma Sector. In 2002, he graduated from the Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue Selection Course Class 5.

In 2006, Chief Vasquez was promoted to Supervisory Border Patrol Agent at Yuma Station. In 2007, he transferred to the USBP Headquarters in Washington, DC, serving as an Operations Officer in the Special Operations Division. In July 2008, he transferred to the Office of Anti-Terrorism at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), managing several national programs and as the inter-agency liaison to U.S. Coast Guard for operational planning and coordination.

In July 2009, Chief Vasquez transferred to San Diego Sector (SDC) to serve as a Field Operations Supervisor at the Imperial Beach Station, later serving as the station's Assistant Patrol Agent in Charge. In 2011, he became Deputy Commander for SDC's Special Operations Group and served as the team's interim commander until 2012. He was promoted to Assistant Chief Patrol Agent at SDC Headquarters in 2012. In 2014, he transferred to the Campo Station, where he served as the station's Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge.

Throughout his career, Chief Vasquez has held numerous leadership positions at Headquarters, across three USBP sectors, and during an international assignment. He served as Chief Patrol Agent of the Blaine Sector; Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent of the El Centro Sector; Patrol Agent in Charge at both Campo Station and Imperial Beach Station; Alliance to Combat Transnational Threats Director; and Acting Division Chief of Operations and Operational Programs for the San Diego Sector. He also served as Assistant Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, Canada.

Chief Vasquez is a graduate of the CBP Leadership Institute and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Senior Executive Service (SES) Candidate Development Program through the American University Key Executive Leadership Program. As a part of the DHS SES Candidate Development Program, he served as the Acting Executive Director for the CBP Office of Trade's Operation Directorate.
