Captain Timothy “Tim” Williams serves as the commanding officer/Captain of the Special Operations Division within the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. With over 26 years of dedicated service in law enforcement, Captain Williams has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public safety, operational excellence, and leadership.

Captain Williams began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 2003 as a patrol deputy. This was after serving 6 years in the United States Army Military Police Corps. Over the years, Captain Williams has held numerous leadership roles including Detective and Sergeant, where he was instrumental in developing border analytical strategies, overseeing high-profile investigations, and improving organizational efficiency.

Captain Williams has been conducting Border Interdiction since 2010 and became the supervisor of the Southern Arizona Border Region Enforcement (SABRE) in 2016. He also served on the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) for 11 years where he held many specialty assignments.

Captain Williams has served as a Defensive Tactics Instructor and served on the Arizona Police Officer Standards and Training Board, and in his current role he manages a team of 30 Deputies and support staff, ensuring the department’s mission of protection and service to the community is carried out with integrity, professionalism, and transparency.

Currently Captain Williams serves as the Program Manager and principal advisor for SABRE activities and border interdiction, a position which allows him to serve as the official spokesperson on behalf of the Sheriff. This mission creates the unique opportunity to relay community information on border related challenges while presenting to various groups throughout the United States, as well as testifying before the United States Congressional committees.
