Commander Alex “Jabroni” Sandroni

CDR Alex “Jabroni” Sandroni is a native of Granger, Indiana, and attended the United States Naval Academy, graduating in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. Shortly after graduation and commissioning, he started graduate studies at Purdue University, graduating with a Master of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering in May 2009.

After flight training in Pensacola, Florida, he received his wings as a Naval Flight Officer in February 2011, and reported to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) ONE ZERO SIX at Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana, Virginia.

Sandroni’s operational tour consisted of assignment to the Swordsmen of VFA-32 as a Weapon Systems Officer (WSO), deployed aboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) with Carrier Air Wing Three (CVW-3), in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and other coalition operations. During this period, he served as a division officer as well as weapons and tactics officer, achieving his Level IV Strike Fighter Weapons and Tactics, Forward Air Controller (Airborne), and Functional Check Flight qualifications.

His initial shore assignment included the United States Naval Test Pilot School in Patuxent River, Maryland, where he graduated with USNTPS Class 148 in 2015. In March 2016, he was assigned to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) THREE ONE, where he served as the project officer for the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW), Small Diameter Bomb Increment II (SDB II), and Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM) and supported the full range of F/A-18 platform, systems, and interoperability testing.

Following his first test tour, CDR Sandroni was assigned to the Legacy Air Dominance Division at Eglin AFB as a representative of PMA-259 for the development of the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile. As the sole active duty USN representative, he served in multiple roles including Test IPT lead, Production Support IPT lead, and in warfighter integration.

After first serving as the Deputy Commander and Director of Operations, Sandroni currently serves as the Commanding Officer at the 513th Electronic Warfare Squadron. He ensures successful accomplishment of the squadron’s mission to produce and deliver F-35 Mission Data Files to all DoD F-35s, and leads efforts to advance the ability of the F-35 to dominate in the electromagnetic spectrum.

Sandroni has accumulated over 1400 flight hours, including over 1100 hours in the F/A-18F and EA-18G, as well as over 230 arrested landings. Additional qualifications include DAWIA Level III certification in Test and Evaluation, Program Management, and designation as an Acquisition Professional.
