Mr. John Osborne serves as the Senior Science and Technology Advisor to the Army's Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, G2, where he advises the Army's Senior Intelligence Officer on Intelligence Science and Technology programs and funding across various research and development stages including applied research, advanced technology development, and advanced component development and prototyping.
John began his Army career in 1999 as a Cryptologic Linguist (Persian-Farsi) and served from 2001 to 2005 in the 502nd Military Intelligence Company of the 2 Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR), including a 15-month tour in Iraq. After his military service, John earned a BA in International Studies and Global Security from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008. He was subsequently selected as a Boren Flagship Fellow under the National Security Education Program, spending an academic year in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, for language and cultural study. Following this fellowship, John joined the USSOCOM Cryptologic Office at Ft. Meade as a military capability analyst and project officer. From 2011 to 2013, he deployed to Afghanistan as an operations and intelligence subject matter expert, supporting Army quick reaction capabilities developed by the Army's Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate (now C5ISR Center). In 2013, John joined HQDA as a SETA contractor, specializing in SIGINT and Aerial ISR. He returned to the C5ISR Center in 2017 to assist in developing advanced Aerial ISR science and technology capabilities. In 2020, he returned to HQDA G2 to serve as the S&T lead for the ISR Task Force, where he worked to reestablish S&T funding to support the intelligence warfighting function. Throughout his career, John has consistently contributed to advancements in intelligence and technology through his expert knowledge of the DoD’s policies and processes.
