Soldiers and Marines have a heavy burden, literally as well as figuratively, because they may have to carry more than 100 pounds of gear, depending on the mission. This weight decreases maneuverability, increases fatigue, can impair effectiveness and leads to muscular-skeletal injuries that can render highly trained warfighters nondeployable.
