New York, NY – September 27, 2010 – Current operations, especially in southern Afghanistan, would not be possible without the use of rotorcraft. The mountainous Afghan landscape has presented new challenges and helicopters are now being used three to five times more than they would in a time of peace. As a result, the DoD has declared rotorcraft to be among their top three overall priorities for the next four years. In February of this year, Defense Secretary Robert Gates unveiled the new defense budget which asks Congress for $9.6 billion for additional rotorcraft.

In keeping with these recent developments, COL Gregory Gonzalez, Project Manager for Unmanned Aircraft Systems in the Program Executive Office for Aviation at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama spoke with IDGA’s Senior Editor Nick Yonker on Unmanned Aircraft Systems and its future place on the battlefield. He details efforts for manned and unmanned systems to work seamlessly to provide the best situational awareness for our warfighters deployed at the front.

The Podcast has been made available here.

COL Gregory Gonzalez will be speaking at IDGA’s 8th Annual Helicon Summit scheduled for November 16 - 19, 2010, at the Westin Huntsville, Huntsville, AL.For more information on attending the Helicon Summit, and to see a full list of subject matter, please visit: www.HeliconSummit.com or contact Alexa Deaton at alexa.deaton@idga.org.
