The upcoming publication of the first-hand account of the NAVY SEAL raid that killed Osama Bin Laden is stirring up controversy amongst defense officials, as certain statements contradict previous White House officials’ accounts of the mission.
"No Easy Day" is scheduled to hit the shelves on September 4, and was written by Kevin Maurer in collaboration with an anonymous SEAL who participated i...

At first glance, my immediate thoughts were very much in line with the majority of the disparaging comments already directed toward the book's author. Upon further reflection, however, I think that perhaps jim.taylor may have the right of it. The author attempted to remain anonymous (however naive that thought may have been), so "self-aggrandizement" was not part of his motivation. I'm not sure what sort of financial arrangements he's made with the publisher, and have no idea what his intentions are regarding the proceeds from the book's sales...he could be donating it all to the Wounded Warrior Foundation for all we know (doubtful...but could be!).
I think he may see President Obama's over-the-top politicizing of this event and wishes to counter it. And, as the Administration has already opened the Op to Hollywood, I'm not sure the author is revealing anything that has not already been intentionally compromised. The author probably wishes the public to credit the Op where it rightfully belongs, and not to the "I did it, look at me" President who has been spiking this football since the day it happened. More than anything else, however, this may be the author's way of honoring his fallen Team members. I, for one, will give him the benefit of the doubt unless and/or until it's proven otherwise...

I just pray that his book is boycotted and that he never enjoys this base, self-aggrandizing attempt to profit from his brother’s blood. Their blood will be on his hands and he should be thankful he was not part of my team! How did he ever make it into the SEALS?

This is depressingly symptomatic of the tell-all, cash-in, short-sighted culture that dominates seemingly every aspect of modern life. This guy will undoubtedly make a lot of money out of this, while causing problems for the very society he was acting to protect during the operation.
I agree with billnortonaz & EPARDO above - writing a tell-all book like this is selfish & unprofessional, and diminishes the effectiveness of the crucially important op he was chosen to participate in.

Obviously this former Navy Seal is so ashamed of President O'bama's actions that he felt an obligation to his fellow Americans to "Set the Record stright". I'm proud that he was prompted to speak the truth in light of the biased media reports.

This former Navy SEAL is about to learn why special ops missions are kept classified well after they are carried out. I cannot decribe in words the dishonor this person has for himself, his family, fellow SEALS, and his country! I am truly ashamed of his actions.
