About this Podcast...

The United States has become heavily reliant on the use of computers and critical infrastructure-based networks to both run and protect the nation. The Department of Defense has always taken the role of the nation’s protector to heart by providing layers of national security in the physical and data networks. The supercomputing that provides the ability to run and protect these networks is where the DOD leads the fight. So was born the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP).

From the Pentagon to the NSA the needs of defense supercomputers have become extremely apparent and as valuable as ever with the ongoing cyber attacks on elements of critical infrastructure. The ongoing growth and maturation of DOD supercomputing revolves around the ability of the industry to keep up with the demands of national security.

The use of simulation and high-level mathematical modeling have helped the Department of Defense, industry, scientists and engineers save years of trial and error and aided in programs such as the JSF, UAVs and armor programs. In this podcast, Cray Henry discusses his role as Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and how the Pentagon is pushing the computing simulation world. Listen in as Cray talks about the DOD’s High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) and how it’s helping to save lives.
