Source, Maintenance, and Recoverability code (SMR):

It is defined as the code that indicate the manner of acquiring support items for maintenance, repair, or overhaul of end items. Source codes are entered in the first and second positions of the Uniform SMR Code format. The SMR code provides maintenance activities with repair level responsibilities, support method (i.e. procure, manufacture, etc.), and disposition instructions.
