Simulation:
It is defined as the imitation of some real thing, state of affairs, or process. The act of simulating something generally entails representing certain key characteristics or behaviors of a selected physical or abstract system. Simulation can be used to show the eventual real effects of alternative conditions and courses of action. Simulation is also used when the real system cannot be engaged, because it may not be accessible, or it may be dangerous or unacceptable to engage, or it is being designed but not yet built, or it may simply not exist.

Gaming Gadgets and Developing Simulation Technologies
I have just returned from the annual SIGGRAPH conference. The conference features the latest computer graphics and animation techniques from both academia and industry. This year there were over 22 thousand in attendance. One area of focus during the conference was novel interface devices for simulations and games. The Nintendo Wii is a very successful example. It was released in 2006 and as o....Read more

Using Functional Populations to Create More Realistic Simulations
They are walking with us to work in the morning. They are eating next to us in cafes. They are grabbing some milk as we wander down the aisle of a grocery store. They are tying their child’s shoe as we pass by. They are delivering packages in our office. They are playing soccer in the field below our window. They are rushing to their next meeting as we are returning from one of our own. They are la....Read more

From Real Dirt to Digital Dirt: A National Training Initiative
Today's military has come a long way in training forces for combat. From live training exercises in the field, we have modernized to simulated training inside a dome with a synthetic environment and virtual combatants. To gain flight experience, pilots have gone from climbing aboard a fighter jet to sitting in a simulator. Simulation training is a way to prepare troops for combat and is expanding as ....Read more

Simulated Warfare: Army’s Dismounted Soldier Training System (DSTS) to Set New Standard for Realism
Next March, the Army will begin to deploy what may well be the most realistic military simulator ever developed, the Dismounted Soldier Training System (DSTS). DSTS is the first fully immersive virtual simulation training program for soldiers at the squad level. It is expected to provide state-of-the-art flexibility, rigor and realism aimed at increasing the quality of instruction and combat preparedness....Read more
