Happy Thanksgiving, or something like that I guess I just woke up, it’s 1pm. I have an hour and a half to get to the Chow hall to try and catch their Holiday Meal. Instead, I’ve decided to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich (which I’m currently eating), and will go to the gym for a shoulder workout followed by a run. read more

The mud has arrived. Rain rain go away….no I’m serious. The place has turned to soup, and it’s nasty. It’s one thing to get a little mud on your boots or shoes, but this is that magnetic mud. read more

So the war is “over” in Iraq, now it’s all about Afghanistan… At least that is what the news would have you to believe. Even in the local media, nothing about the bad that is going on, more about the public relations, Soldiers more concered with finding some local national’s cattle or fixing a school than doing combat operations. read more

More Sports: Fooseball (and vid) It’s football season everywhere, the NFL, NCAA, and at Camp Taji. I’ve been playing flag football ever since my dreams of playing in the NFL fizzled out (when I was about 5ys old), so when we aren’t on missions we strap on the cleats and head out to the turf…. read more

Work hard, golf harder Only in Iraq can you be out dodging IEDs by night and playing in a golf competition by day. Ok, so maybe I wasn’t exactly playing bumper cars with Vehicle IEDs last night but I was out on a mission, and today was the 1st Annual Long Drive competition here on Taji. read more

The weather, it’s a changin It’s gone from oppressive, to tolerable, to (finally) comfortable over here. A few months ago going outside at 8am mean a large sweat stain down my back and squinting through my sunglasses while the sun tried to cook me. read more

What they don’t tell you when you sign up for this… Being an officer seemed cool, when I didn’t know anything about being an officer! Of course, there is much more to the job than getting saluted and wandering off when the rest of the platoon seems heavily engaged in some type of work. read more
