The F-35 has had one of its bloodiest weeks ever in terms of cost, delays and management issues. Recently the Secretary of Defense Robert Gates canned Major General David Heinz, who was in charge of the F-35 program. (Note: Lockheed Martin did not fire any of their managers in the program.) The program has increased at least 45 percent over original estimates and will most certainly go higher for total program costs.
