Boeing has stated that there are many reasons why an airworthy airplane under the control of a pilot crashes into terrain or man-made obstacle. I contend there is only one reason for CFIT: The pilots did not know where they were! Many advances have been made to improve pilot situational awareness (see solutions below), but I can see a further step that will provide to general, commercial and military aviation a much better solution to CFIT.
